UFC Gains Official “Home” Arena

The UFC is an organization that stages mixed martial events all across the world. It is also the modern face of the “fight capital of the world”— Las Vegas With the organization having been based in the city since 2001, they’ve further planted their roots in the community as an “anchor tenant” of T-Mobile Arena.

USA Today’s MMAJunkie.com notes “UFC will have priority scheduling for its major events, such as International Fight Week, and will have a presence at T-Mobile Arena – headlining the welcome sign in the lobby alongside the (NHL’s) Vegas Golden Knights, as well as concourse activations, signage, and retail space. (New UFC parent company) WME-IMG also owns the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), which has a long-term agreement for its World Finals at T-Mobile Arena.”

The length of the agreement was not disclosed but is a multi-year deal that will see the UFC put on four annual shows there. However, ESPN reported per the Associated Press that the deal is longer than seven years.

The world leader in MMA has hosted 109 previous events in the city: MGM Grand Garden Arena (42), Mandalay Bay Events Center (31), Palms Casino Resort (17) Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (8.)

All major sports team franchises have their own venues but never before has a venue partnered with a league itself, be it in MMA or other sports. T-Moblie arena opened in April 2016 and was the site of UFC 200 and the return of Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 in December. This announcement was made just before it hosted its third event, UFC 209, last weekend. Watch the official announcement below.
