Nunes Retains Championship with TKO of Rousey
Brazil’s Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes may have made history repeat itself by finishing Ronda Rousey like Holly Holm, but she has gone one step further by getting the technical knockout in just 48 seconds.
With all media attention focused on the return of Rousey (who went on a media blackout ahead of the fight for reasons that are debatable) Nunes just kept working her way through training.
Referee Herb Dean called for the fight to commence and the Olympic bronze medalist in judo walked right into a number of boxing combos from the defending women’s bantamweight champion. From the very start after connecting for the first time, Nunes was able to walk into Rousey’s striking range with her hands down, often a sign of disrespect in this sport, fearing nothing. A straight left and right to the temple put away the shaky-legged former champion. Rousey stayed on her feet in this loss, but the stoppage by the official was described by commentator Joe Rogan as, "merciful."

After spending over a year away from both the UFC and largely the public eye before this second consecutive loss, “Rowdy’s” future remains unknown. Many are speculating that she might retire and focus on Hollywood. Rousey did not give a post-fight interview inside the cage as is customary or appear at the post-fight press conference to speak on the matter.
