LFA Announces Debut Event
The Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) is a leading developmental promotion to the UFC.
The final Legacy Fighting Championships event, Legacy FC 63, is in the books and now the RFA is taking its last bow tonight (December 9) on AXS TV before the two organizations merge in the new year. As originally reported in late September, the new promotion will be putting on a series of champion vs. champion cards to crown inaugural LFA belt holders.

LFA 1 is set for January 13th on AXS TV from The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas (Legacy FC was largely a Texas regional promotion) and first up are the bantamweights. Steven “Ocho” Peterson will lock horns with the RFA’s Leandro “Pitbull” Higo. Texas will continue to have a rich MMA history even as Legacy FC closes its doors– the LFA is reported as being based out of Houston with offices in Las Vegas (home to the RFA/UFC) and elsewhere. “The NCAA of MMA” will produce 30 events a year as of the time of this post.
“Our very first LFA unification bout features two bantamweight titleholders that haven’t lost in 4-5 years and they have very aggressive submission games” Former Legacy FC President Mick Maynard said. “Both are young, exciting prospects and a perfect representation of LFA.”
Higo is yet another jiu-jitsu fighter from Brazil trained by Bellator’s “Pitbull” Freire brothers, Patricky and Patricio. 10 of his 16 wins are by submission with eight coming in the first round. His last appearance was a technical sub “W” over Joey Miolla (the referee ended the bout as Miolla was put to sleep, losing the ability to submit) featured on the UFC’s Dana White: Lookin’ For A Fight web-series and is a “Fight of the Year” nominee according to the RFA.
Higo and Peterson have a combined 30-6 overall record with each only having been put away once compared to 23 of those joint victories being stoppages. Could the LFA’s next tagline be “Land of the Finish?”
The LFA Report will replace the RFA Report on InsideSTL.com in 2017. LFA 1’s televised card will begin at 9.p.m CST on AXS TV.
