Jones Gets Return Date
Jon “Bones” Jones continues his up-and-down run outside of the sport of MMA and for now his life is on an upswing–sort of. The greatest light heavyweight in the sport was facing two separate suspensions from the UFC-partnered U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC.)
USADA has already handed down a one-year suspension after Jones was pulled from UFC 200 in July after a failed drug test for Hydroxy-clomiphene and Letrozole. The news of the failed test, of course, led to speculation that the troubled former champion having taken performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs.) It was later claimed by Jones and proven by USADA to have been from using a tainted sexual supplement, similar to the claim of Anderson “The Spider” Silva in his case.
The NSAC had the ability to give Jones a two-year ban of their own–the maximum for the offense–but gave him one year that will run concurrently with the USADA suspension. Both are retroactive to July 6, the day on which his test results came out. He is able to return to the UFC on July 7, 2017, but will take on retired UFC fighter Dan Henderson in a grappling-only event. UFC veteran and Bellator star Chael Sonnen.
He is able to return to the UFC on July 7, 2017, but will take on retired UFC fighter Dan Henderson in a grappling-only event. UFC veteran and Bellator star Chael Sonnen’s “Submission Underground 2” will be streamed live on FloGrappling.com from his native Oregon on December 11 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
Jones and Henderson will finally meet following the cancellation of UFC 151 in 2012 due to an injury to Henderson. In controversial fashion, Jones then refused to fight any last-minute replacement options which led to what was then the only canceled show in UFC history.
