UFC’s Josh Samman Dead Following Coma

After spending a week in Hollywood, Florida’s Memorial Regional Hospital in a coma, UFC’s Josh Samman is dead at age 28. His passing comes after being found unresponsive along with a local MMA ring announcer at Samman’s apartment.

Authorities were originally called on suspicion of a drug overdose. As mentioned above, Samman was unresponsive but was breathing and had a pulse at the time. He was later placed in hospice care and was on a respirator.

Heroin remains the substance under dispute although it does not appear that Samman ever had a prior history of drug use. His mother said in a statement before his passing originally obtained by FoxSports.com:

“In spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh’s system whatsoever,” the statement read. “No matter what people are posting on social media. The reason I am making this statement is, because Josh touched so many lives, and loved inspiring others, especially young people. I don’t want them to lose faith in him, and whatever he brought out in them, because of the lies. He would want them to never give up.”

Samman’s final fight record reads 12-4 with a 91 percent finish rate (7 KOs, 4 submissions.)

Prior to being stopped by Tamdan McCrory and Tim Boetsch in 2015 and 2016 respectively, Samman had won four straight with the last being against Caio Magalhaes by way of rear-naked choke on The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale.
