Freelance: Cerrone, Shevchenko Sign Extensions with UFC

Shortly after it was announced that Welterweight contender Rory “Red King” MacDonald was headed to the UFC-rival Bellator MMA, it was thought that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone would also be considering his options elsewhere. MMAJunkie initially reported on their radio program this past Thursday that Cerrone will be stepping into the Octagon eight more times under a new deal.

The Jackson-Wink trained fighter just recently fought out his then current contract at UFC 202 last Saturday. He entered a brief free agency period on a high note with a TKO win over Rick “The Horror” Story by a combination of strikes and a head kick. The re-signing was also confirmed by Cerrone’s management team earlier this week.

Clearly wanting to take on new UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Amanda “Lioness” Nunes after a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Holly Holm in Chicago last month, Valentina “Bullet” Schevchenko has inked a new deal of her own for seven fights. Her management gave the news exclusively to

Shevchenko via Twitter: "@danawhite @seanshelby I will show you next level striking and turn up the heat on @Amanda_Leoa for a #KO at #MSG#UFC205 #readytodance"

She is currently 13-2 (2-1 in the UFC) with her only loss inside the Octagon being a unanimous decision in favor of Nunes. Shevchenko has only been finished once in her career to this point, but Nunes is eying Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña.
