Freelance: Bellator 160's Big Names Get Matchups
The world won’t have to wait much longer to get its first real look at Kevin “Baby Slice” Ferguson Jr. It was recently announced by promotion officials that he will step into the Bellator cage for the first time at Bellator 160 on August 26 after it was finally revealed who he will face: Johnny Tomasian.
While some fans might come down on the Viacom-owned league, Slice’s signing occurred before the passing of his street fighting legend-father “Slice Sr.” roughly two months ago as has been previously written. Both Ferguson Jr. and Tomasian are a fair matchup for the other with similar amateur records of 1-0 and 2-0 respectively. Both fighters have a TKO each to their credit–with Slice’s coming in under a minute and a half.
In addition to congestive heart failure, it was also reported by multiple outlets that the elder Ferguson had been suffering from a liver mass.
Bellator 160 will once again be highlighted by “Smooth” Benson Henderson’s attempt to earn a Lightweight title shot (what could be his second title fight in three bouts for the organization.) It also feature’s the debut of NCAA Division II wrestler (130-0 over his four-year college career) and 5-0 MMA amateur Joey Davis. According to the NCAA directly, Davis accumulated four titles at 184 pounds.
“I was stressed out this whole process. I’m really at a loss for words,” Davis said. “I worked tremendously hard. The coaches worked me so hard, but it has all been worth it…“I never thought about something like this, about going undefeated in college,” Davis said. “To be able to have my names mentioned with some of the greats, it’s an amazing accomplishment for me. I have some options, but for me, it’s about graduating first” Davis told NCAA.com at the time.
Once Davis had his diploma in hand, the option became Bellator MMA. He will face 1-0 Keith Cutrone. Anaheim, CA’s Honda Center will serve as the host venue. The rest of the announced card is available below.
