The RFA Report- Alexandre Pantoja

The Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) is a leading developmental promotion to the UFC.

The 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter was a big deal. Instead of fighting for the usual six-figure contract, the all-female season resulted in the birth of the UFC’s Women’s Strawweight division. This year (after just coming off of the TUF 23 all-RFA finale) the world’s leading mixed martial arts promotion has outdone itself again.

Specs: Ht. 5′ 5″ Wt. 125 lbs. Accomplishments: RFA Flyweight champion (currently 1 defense)

UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is a troubling puzzle that fellow 125-pounders have yet to solve. While a move up to 135 is still unknown, the UFC previously seemed desperate to find challengers for “Mighty Mouse”.

They seem to have given him his greatest challenge yet: TUF 24 will feature champions only and they will be representing top developmental and regional organizations from around the world. Coming from Brazil’s well-respected Nova Uniao fight team along with Black House, the RFA’s gold bearer at 125 is Alexandre Pantoja.

Pantoja is currently tied for second among three contenders with the most experience: Legacy FC’s Damacio Page leads with 29 fights while Pantoja and Australia’s Kai Kara-France each have 18 as professionals. Of those three, Pantoja has the greatest success rate at 16-2 compared with the 19-10 and 12-5-1 records of Page and Kara-France respectively.

In 19 victories, Page leads in combined finish percentage (KO/Submissions) with 95 percent with Pantoja right behind him at 75 percent. However, Pantoja’s only losses were due to judging. He is also riding a two-win streak by Technical Submission. A technical submission occurs when a fighter is unable to physically or verbal submit and falls into unconsciousness forcing the referee to break the winner’s hold.

The most recent sub was against–Page. Pantoja was previously a six-fight veteran of Shooto Brazil before he won his RFA championship in his RFA debut before facing Page last year.

Who do you think could shock the MMA world and top Johnson?

“I’ll put all my effort to get the most of it. I’ll give my best to have my family, friends fans, sponsors and supporters proud of me and proud of all hard work that we’ve done together. See you guys soon! Let’s go for the war” Pantoja wrote online.
