STL Area’s Sanchez is The Ultimate Fighter, Wins UFC Contract
Tonight was a proud night for fight fans from the Gateway City region and those at the Resurrection Fighting Alliance–a premiere developmental promotion to the UFC as alumni Andrew “El Dirte” Sanchez and Khalil Roundtree collided for a six-figure deal with the organization.
The “green” Roundtree was viewed as being dominated over the course of fifthteen minutes. Sanchez controlled the action from the get go with a pair of takedown attempts, the successful one being the latter. Roundtree is caught with a right. He brings a hand to the canvas in an attempt to rise, but Sanchez pulls him down like a shark to the depths of the ocean.
Sanchez bearhugs Rountree, pulling him back to the ground. He works for a Rear-Naked Choke before a final takedown before the horn sounds.
Roundtree opens up with a #3 punch (left hook) as Sanchez dives in. One single-leg later, the fight mirrors the opening frame. Underhooking Roundtree in full mount position, Sanchez hammers rights home. “El Dirte” works for the RNC again, eventually just favoring to pad his punch numbers for the duration of the second.
The opening of the third appears to belong to Team Joanna’s Roundtree with some southpaw blasts that Sanchez later admitted left him a tad punchdrunk and with a slight headache. The McKendree Bearcat works through the shots, putting his championship-winning wrestling to work again.
The ground-and-pound from earlier in the bout rears it’s ugly head as the grinder and RFA Middleweight champion in Sanchez finds the mark with sharp elbows. Another go at the back choke seal the deal as Sanchez gets the “W.”
