Bellator: "Vegeance" is Coming to St. Louis

Just months after making its debut in the “Gateway to the Midwest” Bellator MMA will make its return to Scottrade Center on Friday, November 6. Featherweight champion, Patricio “Pitbull” Freire once again finds himself atop the card as he is set to square off against Daniel Straus for a third time for Bellator’s Featherweight belt.

“The fans made it a success. The crowd in St. Louis was one of the loudest and most passionate we had ever seen in Bellator. We knew right away that we would be coming back as soon as possible”, commentator Jimmy Smith said.

Although they share similar records (24-2-0 and 23-6-0 respectively) it should be noted that the 23-win record of Straus is deceptively misleading given that 13, a staggering 57 percent, went to the judges. Freire is no stranger when it comes to going the distance, with a 6-2 decision record with two being after five rounds.

Justin Lawrence, formerly of the UFC, squares off against former champion Pat Curren in the card’s other featherweight contest.

Also returning to Scottrade will be former O’Fallon resident, Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley and High Ridge, Missouri native, “Iron” Michael Chandler. Chandler’s last bout was also in St. Louis back in June when he choked out Derek Campos in just over two minutes. In his last fight, Lashley bullied Dan Charles all over the cage before finishing him with old-school ground and pound in the second round.

With only one TKO (second round retirement) and a single decision loss against him, seven submission victories despite heavy hands, and an undefeated Bellator record, the former WWE Superstar Lashley is definitely a legitimate heavyweight contender. A title shot might not be too far out of the question.

Opponents for Chandler and Lashley still have yet to be determined.

Schaumburg, Illinois’ “Ill” Will Brooks went five rounds with Chandler at Bellator 120 in May, 2014 to be called the interim Lightweight champion. This was before scoring a TKO against him at Bellator 131 in November of the same year, making him undisputed. Brooks’ first defense against Dave Jansen went to the judges.

Although he kept the belt, expect Brooks to want to make a statement against Marcin Held. Hopefully the bout is as entertaining as Brooks’ Twitter war with “Pitbull”.
